Crochet your own hungry shark in just a few hours! The FUN part is, the shark has a mouth pocket inside its body that can be filled with his fish friends! Gasp! This easy-to-follow pattern includes 1 PDF file with detailed instructions, progress pictures, AND video tips explaining how to crochet and assemble all the parts to make this shark and his little fish friends - a mini fish, shrimp, and squid.
This pattern can be made as written with any yarn weight. It is pictured in the listing photos with #7 jumbo weight yarn (the larger shark pictured) and #6 super bulky weight yarn (the smaller shark pictured).
To make this pattern, you will need to know the following crochet stitches: chain, single crochet, and slip stitch. The increase and decrease stitches are also used, but are explained in the pattern.
Materials you will need:
• Crochet hook size: H/5 mm
• #6 super bulky weight yarn OR #7 jumbo weight yarn; see note below* for amounts needed
• #4 medium weight yarn: a few yards/meters of black and white (for the gills and eyes)
• 1 pair of 18 mm black safety eyes (for a shark made with #6 super bulky weight yarn); 1 or more pairs of 9 mm eyes for the mini friends (optional, as the eyes can be embroidered)
• Polyester fiber fill stuffing
• High quality white felt for the teeth
• Fabric glue for securing the teeth; I used Fabri-Tac glue
• Yarn needle, stitch marker and sharp scissors
*Note: This pattern can be made as written with any yarn weight.
If you use #6 super bulky weight yarn, you will need 125 yards/114 meters of gray and 40 yards/37 meters of red plus 15 yards/37 meters of the following: yellow (for the mini fish), coral (for the shrimp), and blue (for the squid).
If you use #7 jumbo weight yarn, you will need 180 yards/166 meters of gray and 70 yards/64 meters of red, plus 30 yards/27.5 meters of the following: yellow (for the mini fish), coral (for the shrimp), and blue (for the squid).
Also note: It is important that the yarn used for the mouth pocket is the same thickness as the yarn used for the shark’s body, so that the pocket fits inside the body.
Size:
When made with #6 super bulky weight yarn, the finished shark will be 15 inches/38 cm long. With #7 jumbo weight yarn, the shark will be 27 inches/68.5 cm long. With #4 medium weight yarn, the shark will be 12 inches /30 cm long.
