Crochet a gnome around a 5 gallon bucket for cute and unique storage! You can store throw blankets, yarn or stuffies inside the gnome, or use the bucket gnome as a giant gift basket?! This easy-to-follow pattern includes detailed instructions and video tips on how to crochet and assemble all the parts to make this gnome.
Only basic crocheting skills will be needed: chain, single crochet, slip stitch, increasing and decreasing.
Materials you will need:
• Crochet hook size: 8mm
• #7 jumbo weight yarn*: body color (28 oz/348 yds/320 m used), hat color (28 oz/348 yds/320 m used), skin color (2.4 oz30 yards/30 m used)
• #6 super bulky weight yarn** – for the beard – choose a woven yarn that will NOT shed: 3.5 oz/65 yards/60 m used
• #4 medium weight acrylic yarn: a few yds/m in a color that matches the body color for cinching up the body to fit over the bucket OR a 55-in/140 cm drawstring and cord lock can also be used if you want the body to be easy to remove and put back on
• Optional: #4 medium weight acrylic yarn: if you don’t want to sew the the jumbo weight yarn, 2 strands of the body color to sew on the arms, and 1 strand of the skin color to sew on the nose
• Yarn needle
• Polyester fiber fill stuffing
• 1 5-gallon bucket (diameter - 1 ft/30.5 cm; height – 15 in/38 cm)
*I used Parfait XL yarn from Premier Yarns: 4 skeins of Goblin for the body, 4 skeins of Burgundy for the hat, and ½ skein of Shell for the skin color. If you choose a different yarn, you may need to customize the pattern slightly to still fit the bucket. Instructions for this are included in the pattern.
**For the beard, I used 1 skein of Premier Basix Super Bulky yarn from Premier Yarns.
Final measurement for the finished bucket gnome is 45 inches/114 cm tall.
